The most convenient and straight forward way to print label is using a label printer as it allows you to print exactly as many labels as you need on demand while providing flexibility on what materials and sizes you can use. However, it is not a must to have a label printer to print labels. There are alternatives such as A4 sheet labels that you can use with standards laser printers.

Direct thermal printers can only print direct thermal labels. These labels are best suited for short term use such as shipping or short term storage. This is because over time they fade away. However, they are the fastest way to print and the one that needs the least consumables making it popular for warehouse and office use.

Thermal transfer printers can print on both direct thermal and thermal transfer labels providing a bit for flexibility. Thermal transfer labels are suited for long term labelling, as the label lasts more than a year. The printers also have the ability to print on a variety of materials, which is useful in cold storage or weatherproof label printing.

Zebra does not officially support their printers for MAC devices. Zebra printers however, do work, that being with some limitations in terms of control and sometimes quality.

o Direct thermal shipping label: $0.03/label

o Thermal transfer shipping label: $0.04/label
